Author Topic: How to Make Movie Previews  (Read 13860 times)

May I suggest strongly that every movie have a preview of screen captures?  I may already have your movie, or I may not be interested in that partivular video.

You will get many more views and downloads if you include a preview. Previews are easy. On a PC, use either Media Player Classic or Image Grabber II. (For Macintosh:  on page 2 of this thread see the post by "gimme size," who recommends VLC Player.)

Media Player Classic
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/media_player_classic.cfm

Instructions: Just open a movie clip, click on Stop, then go to File > Save Thumbnails. Specify file location, name, image format (Jpeg), number of the rows, columns & image width. Then Save and it will generate thumbnails.

Image Grabber II:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ImageGrabber

Instructions: Open a clip, stop it (click the red icon), click the computer monitor icon to start the thumbnail generation. In the popup window, enter 10, 15, 20, 30 (whatever) for desired number of thumbnails, and the app makes them pronto. Then click File > Save File and indicate thumbnails per column (5 is usual), enter a filename in the large field (optional), and click Save, then browse to desired file location and fill in filename and Save.

Post the thumbnail array to imagevenue.com, fapomatic.com or  glowfoto.com.

Sample of a 73MB Melissa Dettwiller flick generated by Image Grabber, posted to fapomatic:

At fapomatic/glowfoto or other picture-post site, you upload the thumbnail array. There will be several posting options. Select the URL from the one at the top ("For use on a forum or message board"). It will begin with "[ url=http:...."   Just copy the URL string into your post, and we will see a thumbnail that we can enlarge.

You can also use ImageGrabber to make Previews

Yeah, for screen caps, I use Media Player Classic. When your movie is loaded, go to File > Save Thumbnails.

Here's a link to d/l Media Player Classic, if anyone's interested:

what about for mac is there a program for this Huh?

You could always just pause the video (not too big window) and press shift+option+4 – then draw a square over the player and voila! A nice ping picture on your desktop. Just post two or three highlights and we get the drift I suppose. Better than nothing anyway  Smiley.

It's because media classic player cannot open quicktime. MPC is build on the samed frame than the old windows media player. Since there is no way to play quicktime mov ie in wmp, you cannot either with MPC. Hope it's answer your question.

I get the same error code and can't figure out what is wrong.  I would also appreciate any tech assistance that another member can offer.  Thanks.  Its the only thing standing between me and posting videos (don't want to run afoul of the rules and post video without preview).

That is not true, musicman. Just download and install QuickTime Alternative and your MPC will easily play .mov files as you can see in the picture below.

As you can see you can make snapshots with MPC from .mov files. Change your settings in MPC. See the first picture below.

Simple Method
To make a screenshot of your movie don't use any additional programs:

Play your movie on any player, then press a Pause Button in prefered place and press Print Screen Button (prnt scr) on your keyboard, then open standart program "MS Paint". In this program press "paste", cut and save the picture. That's all.

Thank you this is another option but 'Video Snapshots Genius' creates detailed previews.

For making screenshots we can recommend 'Capture-A-ScreenShot' software

Capture-A-ScreenShot is a simple to use screen capture software utility that captures screenshots.   With Capture-A-ScreenShot, you can easily capture the last active screen, full screen, or selected area.

For all mac users

This is a neat little program that will make previews from whatever movie file you throw at it! :
